One Family Illinois’ CEO Delphine Rankin, Ed.D. kicked off the foster organization’s “Women in Leadership Series” with her esteemed guests and longtime friends, author and civic leader Jacquelyn Dortch and Illinois Senator Lakesia Collins.

Featured speaker Jacquelyn Dortch, author of Distinction: I’m not just a Woman, Imma Black Women opened her remarks by highlighting trailblazing women from Jane Addams to Oprah Winfrey to Michelle Obama. She reminded the audience of more than 50 that they are role models, too. As mothers, wives, professionals, friends, and volunteers, she emphasized, women show up in countless ways for their families, communities, and one another.

“A woman’s power to profoundly impact other people’s lives in a positive way is her superpower,” Jacquelyn said. “You need to show up for yourself too!”  ‍

Her message resonated deeply, acknowledging the all-too-common experience of women being stretched thin while putting self-care last.

Honoring Senator Lakesia Collins ‍

If any woman understands the weight of responsibilities women carry, it’s Senator Lakesia Collins. A longtime friend and supporter of One Family Illinois, her dedication to families has made a lasting difference. During the event, Dr. Rankin presented Senator Collins with the Families First Changemaker Award, recognizing her dedication to standing alongside families and turning their voices into action, opportunity, and lasting progress.

“It is my honor and privilege to acknowledge Senator Collins for her longtime commitment to creating better outcomes for children and families and for always showing up for One Family Illinois and the people she serves,” Dr. Rankin said.

Through sharing her own childhood challenges and triumphs, Senator Collins highlighted why her commitment to helping children embrace the joys of childhood is profoundly personal.

Women’s Month Speaker Series
